Akui Kamalabala Women’s College is a Govt. aided college , Affiliated to Bankura University from August 2015.
Education has normally been viewed as an agency of augmenting socio- economic production and it cannot be achieved without ensuring participation of women in Higher Education. Hence the social reformers of Akui and its surroundings felt the pressing need of establishing a women’s college at Akui for the upliftment of women education . As the conservative guardians of the time were hesitant to send their daughters to a co-educational college for higher education, the well-wishers of the village ultimately established Akui Kamalabala Women’s College on 10th August 2016.
AKUI KAMALABALA WOMEN’S COLLEGE, Affiliated to Bankura University is one of the seven colleges which were proposed to be set up as new general degree college and enlisted in the letter No. 166(7)-Edn(CS)/4C-16/05 (Pt.) dated, Kolkata 7.3.2012 by the Assistant Secretary, Higher Education Department, Govt. of West Bengal.
Under the careful inspection of Mr. Gurupada Mete, respected MLA, Indas, Bankura and others the grand venture of establishing the second women’s college in Bankura District was materialized in August 2016. The land of the college was gifted by Smt. Kamalabala and her family of Akui, Bankura and as a mark of gratitude the institution has been named after Kamalabala. In spite of all odds, the college has committed to the noble cause of academically and culturally enlightening women, the gender marginalized segment of the society.
The picturesque campus of the college has been earmarked on the plots of 5 acres land to the south part of Akui Sub-Health Centre, Vill & P.O Akui, Dist.-Bankura, W.B., donated largely by villagers of Akui and partly purchased by the organizing body of the proposed college. We must thank our respected Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee who assured our MLA verbally but cordially “Gurupada, I must keep my promise for granting a girls’ college in your area” Mr. Gurupada Mete, our favorite MLA deserves our special thanks for his active support in all steps for the establishment of the Women’s College. We hereby compliment the Vice Chancellor, The Registrar and all teaching and non-teaching staff of our affiliating university for their invaluable instruction, proper guidance and inspiring suggestions.
The college had a modest beginning with only general degree courses in arts in 2016. The venture was in keeping with the demand of the time when graduation was a dream among women and studies in humanities were rated high enough. Subsequently when the dedication and endeavour of the teachers of the time succeeded in creating avid interests among literate females of the locality for higher studies, the college introduced Honours courses in Bengali and English within two years of establishment that is in 2018. All future improvements depend on the healthy co-operation and constructive suggestions from all corners of the society, and kind helps from the education department of both Central and State Govt. Hence benign views and generous support are solicited from all.
Vission: Our one and only vision is a progressive and qualitative development of our college so as make it a standard institution for women in our country.
